1Pacman Party-list: Education is backbone for confidence in the future
MANILA, Philippines — Energies for support from the youth are moving in campuses as the 1Pacman Party-list reminded students that they shape their future through representation in Congress.
They are well encouraged about their responsibility to vote this Monday by the track record of achievements for youth development that 1Pacman Party-list first nominee Milka Romero presented.
Speaking at Lipa City Colleges in Batangas and Lyceum Philippines in Cavite, Romero enjoined young Filipinos to rally behind 1Pacman which continues to show that education, skills and opportunity-building, and health are the backbone for confidence in the future.
The 1Pacman’s social media posts present the numbers. After three consecutive terms in Congress, 1Pacman has provided 30,000 scholarships to students and out-of-school youth, medical aid and financial assistance for 75,000 families, and funding for 2,000 families with young children who needed heart surgery and post-operations care under the Save-a-Child’s-Heart program with the Philippine Heart Center.
“Youth empowerment is not just a policy for us—it’s personal,” said Romero. “We want every young person to have the skills and the tools, and to embody the belief that they can succeed.”
Romero is not a rookie in bringing out the best in people she deals with. A former national player and co-captain for her Ateneo women’s football team, she now owns and co-manages with her sister Mandy two professional women’s sports teams—the Capital1 Solar Spikers for volleyball, and the Capital1 Solar Strikers for football. Starting at the age of 19, Romero has also grown her food and beverage business to become the Miro Group of Companies.
She was chairman of 1Pacman foundation when her father, Rep. Mikee Romero, built the 1Pacman legacy of congressional service by authoring and sponsoring some 145 laws. Among these are the free tuition act for state universities and colleges, and the creation of the National Academy of Sports which provides scholarships to talented athletes for well-rounded education and world-class training for their chosen sport.
Trained to perform well through preparation, Romero started early in this campaign to reach out to youth in areas in the outskirts not often reached for wellness and sports. The Palawan, Laguna, and Bohol youth who participated in sports clinics came away appreciative of the special attention provided to them by highly-trained coaches and players.
It’s at the grassroots level that national excellence is marked, Romero stated. /cb
